The Election Commission Friday issued comprehensive directions to chief electoral officers (CEOs) across states and Union territories to ensure that every polling station is equipped with Assured Minimum Facilities (AMFs) and adequate voter assistance on polling day.
The mandated AMFs include essential amenities such as drinking water, waiting sheds, toilets with water supply, sufficient lighting, ramps with proper gradients for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), standardized voting compartments, and clear signage to guide voters.

To enhance voter awareness, the ECI has directed the prominent display of four uniform Voter Facilitation Posters (VFP) at all polling stations. These posters will provide details about the polling station, candidate lists, voting guidelines (Do’s and Don’ts), approved identification documents, and the voting procedure.
Further strengthening voter support, Voter Assistance Booths (VABs) staffed by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or other officials will be set up at every polling location. These booths will assist electors in finding their polling booth number and their serial number on the electoral roll.
VABs will be clearly marked with visible signage to facilitate easy access as voters approach the polling stations.
Introducing a novel security measure, the Commission has mandated a mobile phone deposit facility outside polling station entrances. Voters will be required to hand over their switched-off mobile phones to designated volunteers before entering and will collect them after casting their vote. This initiative aims to prevent unauthorized recording and ensure the secrecy of the ballot.
The ECI emphasized that the provision of AMFs and accessibility measures is compulsory and will be closely monitored to ensure strict compliance at every polling station. All election officials have been instructed to complete necessary preparations well ahead of poll dates to guarantee a smooth, dignified, and hassle-free voting experience for all citizens.
This directive reflects the Commission’s ongoing commitment to upholding the integrity, inclusiveness, and transparency of India’s electoral process.
The ECI has on October 6 announced the schedule for the General Election to Legislative Assembly of Bihar to be held in two phases on November 6 and 11 and bye-elections in 8 ACs to be held on November 11. Counting of votes is scheduled to be held on November 14.
